Currently, if a user reaches the login screen before the Password Manager syncs, autofill won’t work. The “Autofill” button within Password Manager won’t work, and autofill key icon inline with the input won’t display.
The user must refresh the page for autofill to begin working. In essence, it seems that the page must load after the password becomes available in the Password Manager. We have to explain this caveat to all our users that we onboard.
Users expect the autofill indicator to display once the passwords are synced, even if the page already loaded. Also, if the autofill indicator was already displayed, but the Password Manager synced and added or removed passwords, the autofill dropdown inline with the input is expected to contain the most updated list of passwords.
